Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 had begun development only two years after the original Xbox console was released by Microsoft. The reasons why it was in development so early was more than likely for Microsoft to get an edge over their competitors, Sony and Nintendo. On November 22, 2005, the 360 was released, which launched a dominating success in the next generation of video game consoles.

Facts

The Xbox 360 was developed to include more feature than just video games, which could pull in even a bigger crowd. A list of Example include;
  • Video Playback: Unlike the original Xbox, the 360 allowed for dvd playback without an extension, it also allowed the ability to play videos off of a computer or a flash drive, provided it was in the right format.
  • Music Playback: Like the original Xbox, it was given the ability to play music, however, music could now be streamed off of a computer and could also play music while going through the dashboard or playing a game.
  • Marketplace: a new feature for a consoles, allows for digital download of games, add-ons, wallpaper, etc.
  • Improved Graphics: Allows for almost realistic graphics, improved game play features, and over all new content on a single disc, 10GB a disc.
  • Xbox Live: the network which connects users over the internet, it allows for all the usable features from the marketplace and allows for online gameplay with other players.

The Good

  • The Xbox library is very large and diverse, which allows players to enjoy many different titles, Gamestop has also made a bigger impact with used games.
  • Xbox Live allows for more online competition and fun, the NXE has improved greatly upon this allowing for parties of people to talk even while being in different games.

The Bad

  • The earlier versions were prone to hardware failures, some newer versions are still prone to.
  • The fact that u have to pay 8$ a month is somewhat of a turnoff, compared to Sony and Nintendo's whose online is free.
